A moment.. caught.

Her heart started beating fast as his hand sneaked towards hers. He took her hand in the warmth of his. She did not know what to do. Her whole body stood still; she did not even want to breathe, for fear that he would stop. His fingers embraced hers, and their palms met. It was him who was leading the moves, she just surrendered. A million thoughts started hovering in her head. Her mind was telling her she should stop him, but her whole body was hypnotized. He moved a little bit closer. She felt the chill move up her back, her breath became so weak as if her lungs are no longer able to function. She sighed in hope of getting more air. By that time, his head was on her shoulder. She tried to look at him without turning her head. She did not want to interrupt whatever was going on. She only saw his brown hair and the tip of his nose, then tried to take another deep breath. When she did, the fresh smell of his hair teased her senses. She wished she could take him in her arms, to caress his hair with her fingers. Then she closed her eyes. Though she did not understand.. though none of what was happening made sense.. it felt good. The sound of their breathing filled the silent room. And at some point, their breaths united into one; their chests moved together in harmony. Something, in the middle of all this nonsense, made sense.

He was still holding her hand. He then started stroking her wrist gently. She couldn't resist anymore, so she put her other hand on his. Their hands silently hugged for a while. She felt his neck on her arm, his heartbeats pounding her arm in a continuous rhythm. And just as her body started to relax, and she felt comfortable with all this, he lifted his head up, took his hands away, and lit a cigarette. Without a word, he took a long, deep drag on his cigarette. She kept looking at him, wondering, questioning, begging him to say a word. Anything. But he did not. He finished his cigarette, turned it off in the ash tray, then looked at her. Paused for a while, then told her he should get going. He stood up before she said anything, and left..
